'Start Right to Shine Bright'

Room 21 - Mrs Cardwell

Week Beginning 22nd June

Hi P6!laugh

We hope you and your families are all keeping well. It is hard to believe we have reached the end of term. This certainly isn't the end of term we are used to, and we are all sad about the way this school year ended ☚ī¸.

However, we hope that you, like us, have lots of good memories about your time in P6 😃. One of the activities this week is a chance for you to reflect on your time in P6 and what you enjoyed/learned. I know a highlight for us was the charity assembly, you were all stars 🌟.

We have really appreciated the effort you have put into the activities we have set on both the website and Seesaw, and it has been great to see your work and your faces through our online platforms.

This week we are giving you a set of AQE and GL papers to complete at your leisure throughout the summer. Please make sure you do have a complete break from schoolwork for at least a week or two - although you haven't been at school it has still been an exhausting few months for everyone, and we all need a rest.

The second activity is your P6 record of achievement. We would like you to print this off, or copy it out, and fill in the relevant information. Keep it safe, and then bring it to school when we start back 👍

We know lots of you have been keeping up with your reading on AR, well done! We would like everyone to complete a final Star test this week so we can have a record of your ZPD at the end of term. You can continue to read over the summer, and your points will keep adding up for prizes when you get back to school 😉

Finally, we would like to wish you all a wonderful summer. Keep safe and have lots of fun, and we look forward to seeing you all back in school ready to start P7.

Take care,

P6 Teachers 😊

P6 Record of Achievement

Week Beginning 15th June

Hi P6! laugh

This is the penultimate (look it up😁) full week of the school year! We hope that you and your families are all still well. We have been really pleased to see even more of you engaging with the activities on Seesaw. Well done to everyone who has uploaded or emailed their Titanic projects. We have been very impressed with the content and style of the presentations.

This week we have three more activities, as outlined below:

  1. Windmill Series 3 Paper 3 AQE Practice Paper. Remember to read the questions carefully and that you are allowed to use your Tables and Facts book, if you need to.
  2. We have uploaded a Time Capsule booklet for you to work through. It will hopefully help you to consider this period of your life and find the positives in it. Don’t feel you have to complete it all. Just choose your favourite pages. This does not need to be submitted to us. It is for you and your family to enjoy together.
  3. Continue to take part in the 2020 Garden Olympics.  We would love to see some more photos of you completing the activities!

As in previous weeks, we will again be uploading some additional activities to Seesaw (Monday - Thursday) for you to complete, if you wish. If you have any queries about the activities, please do not hesitate to contact us. Most of the activities can be completed online. However, if you prefer to complete your work on paper, that is completely fine. Just do whatever is easiest for you.

Remember to take time to relax, to read, to exercise and to keep in touch with your friends, too!

Keep well and stay safe! yes

Well done to those of you who have uploaded your Titanic presentations/information booklets, all of them have been fabulous! We loved watching all your videos about what you have enjoyed doing during this time and some of the responses have been very funny! We know you are still getting used to using Seesaw, so if you are having any problems please contact us so we can help you.

This week we have three more activities, as outlined below:

  1.  Windmill Series 3 Paper 2 AQE Practice Paper. Remember to read the questions carefully and that you are allowed to use your Tables and Facts book, if you need to.
  2. Continue to work on your Titanic presentations/information booklets. We are giving you this week to finish these off, if you haven’t already done so. If you have any queries about the activities, please do not hesitate to contact us. This week we are giving you three more activities, as outlined below:

  3.  The third activity is based on VE Day.  This Friday is a very special Bank Holiday – the 75th anniversary of VE Day.  If you would like to find out more about VE Day, then why not try some of the activities that we have uploaded below.  However, please try to complete these before Friday as we would like you to take the day off and enjoy the break.

We are continuing to check your progress in AR and are delighted to see so many of you still reading and taking quizzes.  Well done to those of you who have completed the STAR reading test, and for those of you who have not yet done so, please try to complete it this week. Remember to take your time when sitting this test as it should take you around 20 minutes to complete it.

Continue to work through your booklets provided in your work packs, make sure you get out in the fresh air and ensure you use this time wisely.   Should you have any spare time, there are plenty of amazing activities on https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround, including Art Ninja, lots of fun educational games and daily quizzes.  It will also keep you up to date with important recent events and will help you understand how you and your loved ones can stay safe.

Challenge Photos!! It's lovely to see you all doing the challenges!

Week Beginning 27th April

Hi P6 laugh

We hope that you have had a good week and that you are all safe and well.  We trust that you are still working your way through the topic booklets that we sent home in your work packs.  If there are any areas that you are finding difficult to understand please look at some of the online resources that we have listed on the school website. They will help explain any new concepts and will provide extra reinforcement activities.

Last week we set you some extra activities to complete.  We were really pleased to see the progress that you have been making in your Star Reading tests.  Well done!  yes If you didn’t get the chance to take your test yet, please try to take it this week.  Also, keeping testing yourselves on the books that you are reading at home too.

For those of you that chose to complete the Windmill AQE test we hope that you got on ok.  Please don’t worry too much about your scores at the minute.  These tests are new to you and cover a lot of topics.  It’s completely normal to make mistakes at this stage.  The important thing is that you learn from them and understand where you went wrong.  Good luck with this week’s test!

We also hope that you enjoyed completing the boat challenge that we set you last week.  Some of you sent us in some photographs of your fantastic vessels and we have put them up on the website.  This week we have set you another challenge involving helicopters.  We would love to see some photographs of you enjoying this activity.  Please email them to the school email address and we will post them onto our class pages.

Have a great week and stay safe.

Windmill Press AQE Series 1 Paper 2

Hi P6!smiley

We hope you are well and have enjoyed your Easter break, even though it may have been different to your usual Easter holidays. We understand that home schooling is very different to being in school, and we thought we would share a few tips to help make things easier.

Firstly, 1-2 hours of school work per day is plenty, as well as an hour's reading time - keep completing your AR tests online!

Secondly, keep active. We have had great weather so get outside and enjoy it while it lasts - this is good for your immune system and your brain too!

Thirdly, help with chores at home. Think of ways to make tasks fun, and see if you can use maths skills to help with cooking or baking.

Lastly, talk to your parents/siblings about your work and discuss any problems you have had. They can email or ring us at school if there is anything you need further help with. yes

We want you to keep working through your work packs, remembering to use the online resources as appropriate to help explain any new concepts and to provide extra reinforcement activities.

This week we have some extra activities we would like you to complete:

  1. Please complete another 'STAR' test on AR so we can get your new ZPD.

  2. An  AQE practice paper. Make sure you have completed the angles activities and area/perimeter activities in your pack before completing this test. You may want to keep your tables and facts book beside you to use if you get stuck. Take an hour and see how you get on, then go over the answers with someone at home.

  3. A scientific boat challenge. This links in with our Titanic topic (there are lots of great online resources you can use to enjoy learning all about the Titanic!). You can email us photos of your completed boats - we look forward to seeing your results!
