  • THE ARMSTRONG STORYTTELLING TRUST

    Thu 18 Mar 2021

P4 Room 17 were very excited to be given the opportunity to take part in a Zoom story writing camp with an author and storyteller at the beginning of March.

These lessons were organised and funded by 'The Armstrong Storytelling Trust', which helps to get authors, illustrators and storytellers into schools and the wider community.

The children participated in five online lessons with local author Marianne McShane.

Marianne was born and raised in County Down. She grew up in the seaside town of Bangor, listening to her Granda tell tales around the hearth on many an evening.

Her debut book, Rónán and the Mermaid, inspired by a legend from her home town of Bangor, came out in May 2020 from Candlewick Press.

Marianne used stories, props, artwork and music to inspire the children to write their own stories about our 'Wonderful Antrim'.

We had a truly fantastic week, which culminated in a 'storytelling festival', where all the boys and girls shared the magical stories they had written.

We are so thankful to Marianne, and indeed Liz Weir and the Trust, for organising this week of lessons.

We look forward to building on our work back in school.

  • NI WATER

    Mon 15 Mar 2021

A few weeks ago, P4 enjoyed the first in a series of lessons from NI Water specifically designed to be delivered remotely. This lesson was all about the water cycle which fitted very well into our topic of 'Whatever the Weather.' In the next two lessons, we will be learning about saving water which will compliment our current topic of 'Our Wonderful Earth'.  It was very exciting to hear that because we applied to use these resources, NI Water were going to donate a water butt to the school, to collect rain water and recycle it into usable water. We want to say a big thank you to NI Water for their wonderful lessons and the free waterbutt. P4 can't wait to get back to school and start using it!
