• GEMMA MCMEEKIN -GOLF

  Congratulations to P6 pupil Gemma McMeekin who was won the KPMG Irish Kids Golf Tour ‘Ulster Trophy’ 2019 at Slieve Russell GC, County Cavan.  Having also played in the European Championships against a worldwide field Gemma was 10^th placed European player in the tournament.  Gemma’s handicap has been reduced by 7 shots so far this season, resulting in now being invited to compete at the World Championships.  Well done Gemma, a talent to look out for in the future!

   

  

• RDS SCIENCE BLAST

  On Wednesday 5th June Room 19 went to the Waterfront in Belfast for the RDS Science Blast. They set up their display on smart energy and our team presented their ideas to the judges and other people who came to the stand. The class also got to explore other schools’ projects, take part in some interactive activities and see some science shows including The Gastronaut who spoke about the science of food!

• SKILLS OF THE ANCIENTS

  Some of our P6 pupils were invited to the ' Skills of the Ancients' Archaeology Festival at Antrim Castle Gardens by the Mayor, the team from Archaeology at Queens and the Lough Neagh Partnership. They got to try out some clay and pottery making.

  

• PARKHALL TASTER DAY

  Our P6 pupils were invited to a taster day at Parkhall College on Monday. They got involved in a variety of team building exercises and had great fun together.

  

• PTA SCHOOL FAIR

  We had a great evening at our Annual PTA fair. There were lots of activities available on the evening, the kids and adults had lots of fun and the weather played along for most of the evening. A big thank you to everyone who came along and supported us.

• HOCKEY

  Well done to the boys hockey team who won the Antrim Mens Hockey Club Sixes Tournament. The boys team played outstandingly. The team consisted of Oliver Coggins, Owen Colhoun, Jason Hefferon, Charlie Martin, Jack McComb, Shay McCullough, Euan Roberts and Freddie Thornton. Congratulations to the boys, it was a fantastic way to end the season!!

   

  The girls hockey team did very well too and they won the plate at the Antrim Mens Hockey Club Sixes Tournament. The team consisted of Alice Cardwell, Cassie Fulton, Ruby Hyndman, Cadhla Molloy, Lois Thompson, Leah Waring, Georgia Wilson and Emily Wray.

• KIERON BLACK - AUTHOR

  On Friday 31st  June, the Primary 2 children were treated to a visit from Killough based author and illustrator Kieron Black.  Kieron is also a successful landscape painter, exhibiting across the UK, Europe and New York.  He has illustrated several children’s books, as well as writing his own.  Kieron’s latest book is called ‘The Goblin’s Blue Blanket’, which follows Ogie the Goblin and his annoying cat Gerald as they journey to find Ogie’s lost blanket.

   

  All three classes greatly enjoyed listening to Kieron read from his books.  They then had a question and answer session about his role as a children’s author.  Their workshop with Kieron ended with a demonstration of how to draw an illustration and the children got to try some out for themselves. 

   

  We really enjoyed having Kieron in our school and hopefully some of the children will even be inspired to write or illustrate their own books one day!
